Preston {Turns 5}
Preston is 5!
Can you even believe it? For some reason 4 still sounds little...but all the sudden 5 sounds so grown up.
I try to set up a photoshoot specifically for the boys on their birthday. They seem to get more excited about taking pictures when I tell them the shoot is just for them. Of course it ended up being a brothers photoshoot, but Preston didn't mind at all.
Preston is a pretty serious little boy. Sometimes I feel like he's ten years older than he really is. I don't spent much time around other 5 year olds, but he seems to be pretty smart. He's always thinking things through to the very last detail. I think he's shaping out to be exactly like his Dad.
Skyler started teaching Preston to read a few months ago. They try to do a reading lesson every night. As of now he is about half way through the lessons and reading paragraphs by himself. It's pretty fun to see. Especially since I am NOT a reader. I don't love to read. I would much rather be up and doing something hands on. So I love that Preston enjoys it. He really is a mini-Skyler.
Mostly I think he just enjoys the one and one time he gets with his Dad (because that seems to be pretty coveted time when any of us actually get it).
I try to convince Preston to sleep in every morning. But he always reminds me, "If I sleep in I wouldn't get to see Dad in the morning and tell him goodbye."
Seriously, I'm telling ya... The time is precious.
>> Prest LOVES art. I guess that is the one side of me he did get. He can sit down and color for hours. He currently says he wants to be an artist when he grows up. Exact thing I said at that age.
>> Loves to sing.
>> Loves flying planes with his Dad.
>> He's starting to like Legos more and more every time he builds with them.
>> Loves Play-doh
>> Most of all LOVES hanging out with Wesley.
Here are a few pictures from Preston's birthday.
We don't really do birthday parties around here...maybe one day. But I do like to decorate the dresser. That's kind of our birthday thing around here. This year Preston didn't have a request on the "theme" he told me he wanted it all to be a surprise.
....So I went with Monsters. Not that Preston has any interest in monsters. It just seemed like the best thing I could come up with with the stuff I had on hand.
A few days before Preston's birthday Skyler's Mom told us she was coming to celebrate. Which we were thrilled about. We LOVE LOVE LOVE visitors.
When we remembered that Preston's birthday landed on a "preschool day" at our house, we decided to turn it into a fun party day. So Grandma Dena pulled through for us and showed up with all sorts of party favors and fun games. It was a hit. The kids had a blast.
Thanks to all the grandparents/Aunt's & Uncles that sent Preston gifts, the dresser was a heck of a lot more fun to wake up to than it would have been with our 2 presents sitting there :)
The whole day was a party. Right up until....cake time. After dinner Preston said his stomach hurt. Less than an hour later the poor boy was hovering over his barf bucket for the rest of the night. We took the candle off the cake (we weren't about to spread those germs) let him blow out the candle and sent him to bed. We ended up eating the cake 2 days later. What a way to end your birthday.
Preston is a little sweet heart and we Love having him around. It's always fun watching him grow up. Great things are in store for this little man.
Happy Birthday To The Man {of the house}
Happiest Birthday ever to this handsome fellow.
Skyler's 29th year
*Finishing up his last year of Dental school!!!!
* Has 2 sweet little boys that love him to pieces and another on the way.
* Is married to the women of his dreams :) hehe
*Got this awesome train cake for his birthday.
Ok that last one was a lie.
It really wasn't that awesome. But I tried my best.
Growing up, Skyler's Mom always made Skyler a train cake for his birthday. Full on train with lots of awesomely decorated train cars. So I was a little shocked when he requested a train this year.
I seriously thought to myself, "Are you kidding me right now? How in the world to you expect me to make a train cake, after you have had 29 years of awesome train cakes."
So I tried. Definitely not what he was used to I'm sure. But he said he loved it :) He's nice.
And we had to throw in a (blurry) birthday selfie.
Happy Birthday My Love!!

And while I'm on the SKYLER topic. I think I forgot to mention that Skyler got a deer.
The week before Thanksgiving he went out on a nice freezing day (to this field) and got this big buck with his bow.

Which now looks like this....stacked in our freezer :)
oh and this....we tried making deer sausage this year too.
Wesley {Turns 2}
This little guy is 2. I cannot even tell you how absolutely obsessed I am with him. There is just something about Wes that has stolen my heart.
A few weeks ago we were with my family and Jake (my brother) said, "I think you should rent Wes out to people with depression, cause there is noway that anyone could stay sad around him." That pretty much is Wes spot on. Wesley is such a happy boy. He will brighten any room and put a smile on everyones face.
We spent Wesley's birthday week in Kansas, at my families, which made his birthday so much more fun...of course.
My parents happened to have an Elmo cake pan, one of Wesley's loves right now, perfect right? It was supposed to be Elmo holding an ice cream cone, but I figured Wes would love it ten times more if Elmo was holding a soccer ball, another one of his loves. So my Mom whipped up the cake and a giant cupcake (for the soccer ball) that fit perfectly and I went to town frosting. It was a hit. Wes got to eat the entire soccer ball all to himself.
A few little things about our sweet Wesley Glen.
> LOVES gum...as you can tell from the above picture.
> Loves Cookie Monster (and Elmo)
> Favorite toys right now are his dirt bike that he won't put down, his motorcycle that he won't get off, and his soccer ball that he never stops kicking.
>Is totally in love with soccer...and is actually really good at it. If you give him a basketball or a baseball he will put them on the floor and kick them.
>Talks SO well. I think it helps having an older brother, because I don't remember Preston talking this much this young.
>Still hates nursery. Mostly because he doesn't like to leave my side...I know, my bad. Wish he didn't love being around me so much...uh? Ok not really. I do love it most of the time.
>Doesn't like to sleep in his own bed anymore...because he thinks it's way cooler to sleep with Preston.
>Still takes naps though. Thankfully.
>Favorite songs are, The Wise Man & The Foolish Man, Happy Birthday, and Twinkle Twinkle.
>Is best buds with Preston
Birthday breakfast pancakes!
The only two things we knew Wes would love were a soccer ball and a hat (he likes hats). Skyler picked him out this really cool looking ball (Hawkeye colors). He was so in love with it. We wish we would have gotten the unwrapping part on tap. Wes was seriously doing a happy dance and screaming with excitement. The ball ended up being ridiculously hard and large, so we took it back :( But luckily my parents happened to get him a soccer ball that was his size...and soft, so it worked out perfect.
I made Preston a blanket for his 1st birthday that is his LOVE. So I figured it was time for Wes to fall in love with a blanket too. I bought these fabrics months ago...with very good intentions. But it wasn't until 3 days before his birthday that I decided to get to work. When my Mom saw my fabrics she thought it would be adorable to design a little moose to go on the front, I of course let her work her magic. I sewed the top while she whipped up the moose in no time. Then I let her take over with her mad quilting skills. She put the quilt on her machine and had it quilted within the day.
I couldn't get it out of my head that I wanted chevron quilting. Well, than that crazy idea turned into herringbone
...and did my Mom deliver or what?
It looks seriously cool.
On our way home from Kansas we stopped at Skyler's parents. Of course Grandma had made these cute little Cookie Monster cupcakes and had the house all decorated for another little birthday party. Wes was a happy little camper. He is one lucky boy to have so many people that love him.
Wes was the only family member that didn't own a Hawkeye hat. So, we just had to get him one. Now we can all sport our team together.
We love our little Wes and love that he makes us all a little bit happier all the time.
Thanks buddy
Brooke's {25th} Birthday
Life at 25.
Married to my best friend, have two sweet little boys, stay at home Mom, Photographer when there's time, and feeling young as ever!
(And I feel like I should mention this because it's a huge part of our life right now...even though it has nothing to do with me, just Skyler) but...(almost) 3/4 of the way through Dental school
Pretty sure the rest of the world thinks I'm crazy to be married with 2 kids at 25(& really at 23) but that's OK, I think the rest of the world is crazy :)
And on that note...
I just love this quote ----> And THIS talk...check it out :)
Oh yeah, and this one HERE. One of my all time favorites!
More often than I would like I find myself being tough and course and rude. Not things I want my little boys to remember about me. So I'll keep trying. Hoping to bring out the more tender, kind, and refined side of myself this year.
Life is good!
We headed out for a birthday dinner (& hot chocolate) with our very good friends, The Summers. I think I've mentioned this but I'll mention it again. We were friends with David and Kami when we lived in Rexburg (where we met them). Lucky for us David got accepted into Dental school here in Iowa the year after we (and by we I mean Skyler) did. So here we both are continuing our wonderful friendship in Iowa! How lucky is that?
The boys and I hadn't been out of the house in a while so we decided to take the car the day before my birthday and party! We went shopping and played at the mall. We were sitting down eating a little snack and Preston turned to me and said, "Mom, I told you going on a date with me would be fun!". Such a sweet little boy.
Skyler made Chunky Monkey Pancakes with smoothies (at my request). And stayed up late the day before my birthday to make a white chocolate raspberry cheesecake. He's a sweet one. And my was it delicious!!
(Preston took this picture of Skyler and I)
Another good birthday under my belt :)
Preston's {4th} Birthday
Preston was playing with his toys the day after his birthday and I heard him say, "I'm just so happy now that I'm 4!"
Life is good :)
He requested a motorcycle cake. And yes, that really was his own request...no brainwashing from the mother :)

Grandma Dena came to celebrate with Preston, which made his day, and made his birthday so very special! Wish we could celebrate with all our family all the time.
Preston is such a friendly little guy. Always introducing himself to people we pass in the store or other kids on the playground, hopefully he keeps that up. Preston does have a little stubborn streak in him, and I much more briefer friendly Preston over stubborn Preston.
Sometimes I wonder how Skyler and I have a child that likes to talk so much ;) But among all that talking he says some pretty funny things, so we enjoy it!
Skyler {Turns 28}
This year Skyler was lucky enough to have his birthday fall right in the middle of finals week :) Luckily it was the only day he didn't have a test. This poor guy works so hard, he deserved the tiny little break he got...long enough to eat cake at least.
He requested a deer on his cake this year, so we ran with it...
We love this guy and are grateful for everyday we get to spend with him.
